Hi everyone hope you’re doing well and staying safe. i’m trey from the uk, a totally blind electronic musician with mild cerebral palsy. soundcloud link:
I just wanted to take the time to introduce myself really, I’m very excited about the 1! I am totally blind and I believe that many totally blind musicians would benefit from this product. I was reading with interest about the possible inclusion of a mini HDMI port over on gearspace.com I have some observations and ideas about how the mini HDMI port could be used to provide totally blind users with access to the 1. They are below and a copy from a post I made over there but I thought I’d put it here as well:
If you built in a feature that transmits the text from the display screen to the mini HDMI port I believe the following options for providing accessibility to blind users would become available.
Won a raspberry pie running a program which translates the text from the display into speech. There would have to be a way of adjusting the volume and the rate of the speech that is output it.
To an app which runs on Mac or Windows which does the same job as the raspberry pie and translates text to speech .
Three a small box with two knobs for speech rate and volume and a single button to turn the speech on/off, there would of course be an audio output on the box to connect to an audio interface or mixer.
There is also a fourth option, build a minijack output into the hardware and have a dedicated text to speech mode running on the unit, the controls for volume and speech rate and whether the speech is on/off would be in some kind of accessibility section found in the device settings.
I came up with these ideas on the fly last night and I would love to discuss them further with the development team if they’re open to this.
If anybody reading this post has any questions about my disabilitys or music making process feel free to ask me. Thank you for taking the time to read this post and I look forward to all your responses have a great weekend respect and blessings from Trey.
